With garlic odor, it becomes dark under light and combusts spontaneously in air, soluble in benzene, in carbon bisulfide and in chloroform, slightly soluble in ether, insoluble in water. Both elementary phosphorus and its smoke are very toxic so it must be stored and immersed in water for storage.

Application; Mainly used in producing thermal processed Phosphoric Acid; producing phosphorus compound like Phosphorus Trichloride, Phosphorus Oxychoride, and Phosphorus Pentasulfide, etc.; producing organic phosphorus pesticide and raticide like Methamidophos, and Dichlorvos etc.; producing Red Phosphorus, and Phosphorus, and Phosphorus Pentoxide. It also can be used in producing Matches, dyes agent, Perfumes, and other industrial phosphates.
